One thing I didn't know--all the top picks in Toulouse are booked way in advance, so we didn't get a single one that we wanted to visit, from La Popote, to La Cantine des Sales Gosses, to the classic Emilie--even after calling more than 10 restaurants in a row, a few days in advance! Even La Fiancee was completely booked for Sunday brunch. So a word of warning, book your choice way ahead! And here are the list to the best that we could do.

Les Complices

'Two best friends created this modern restaurant with original offerings and a trendy atmosphere. Its personal touch is the possibility to try up to six different dishes in an individual menu. Perfect for those who can never decide what to pick! Think about booking in advance.' (arrivalguides.com)

The menu du jour is excellent value €12.50 for 1 course, €16 for two and €18.50 for three with 2 choices for entrée and mains and three for dessert. For dinner, definitely do the tasting menu (31€ for 5 courses) and for the two of us, we each got one of each choice to try all the items! Good quality house wines compliment the meal. Service is fast and courteous.

(chicken with kale and mashed potatos)

Tarte citron sable breton (heavenly!!) & Ganache chocolate noir coco

Definitely TOP 🤤

Flower's cafe

Beside a tinkling fountain, this busy cafe is a cake lover's dream – though deciding between glistening raspberry tarts, pavlova or New York–style cheesecake is an exquisite nightmare. Arrive mid-morning for the best chance of grabbing a table. Lunch service is between noon and 3pm from Monday to Saturday only. (Lonely Planet)

Truly authentic and with its own signature style. Simply incredible cake, with just about hundreds of dizzying tempting choices, especially the Tarte au citron & ‘chocolate au lait caramel beurre salé,’ a must-stop break after a few hours wandering in the old town!

Les caves de la Marechale

Hidden below literally one of the most beautiful caves here, we found in the classical atmosphere here a large menu and plenty of gourmand satisfaction.

If there is one typical restaurant in Toulouse, it must be this one. Dated back to 13th century & located in an old priory, it's certainly considered fine dining with great service, romantic ambiance perfect for a date, beautiful classical paintings, and exquisite food. For €35, you can get a three course meal with a starter, entree, and dessert. We were definitely satisfied!

Les crepes de Benoit

We came across this gem while wandering in rue Fermat. An absolute local gem! We had to wait to get a table in this tiny place, but totally worth it. Though pricey, it's one of the best crepes I've ever tasted, and I lived in Paris for a year!

Un Breton à Toulouse avec de vrais crêpes bretonnes raffinées, délicieuses, originales, gustatives.... Et en plus bio, frais, sans gluten, sans lactose...

And the patisserie looks out of this World..

And the crepes are even super-creative besides the traditional recettes salées ou sucrées: burger revisité avec une base de crêpes, tagliatelles de crêpes, maki breton, etc.

An un-missable location for sweet tooth in Toulouse! ❤️

Les copains d'abord

and of course in Toulouse, you can't miss their heartiest traditional food, Cassoulet -- the ultimate southwestern French dish. It's a huge plate that just went on and on--Duck confit, then the French garlic sausages that are a specialty of Toulouse mixed with white beans...

So we decided to go for this traditional place with well priced and flavoursome gourmand offers.

Menu at 29,90 euros, comes with foie gras mi-cuit, gizzard, & the incredibly filling Cassoulet, with Chocolate fondant with coconut ice cream to finish. An extremely hearty meal to conclude our cuisine trip to this wonderful wonderful French city! Not bad for exactly only 48hours of roaming about...
